Eola-Amity Hills
Temperance Hill
Temperance Hill is one of the most iconic vineyards in Oregon, and we are proud to add our name to the long list of producers who make wine from it. Planted in 1981 high in the Eola-Amity Hills, it is organically farmed under the care of viticulturist Dai Crisp, who has tended the site since 1999.
The vineyard sits in the crosshairs of the Van Duzer Corridor. Every afternoon, cool marine air from the Pacific blows across the hills, thickening the grape skins and keeping the berries small. Thin, rocky volcanic soils strewn with basalt do the rest. The result is fruit of real concentration: intense aromatics, power and grip.
Temperance Hill is usually our last pick of the year, often well into October, when the late sites in the Eola-Amity Hills are dodging the first fall rains. The fruit is so good that, as Travis puts it, it makes his job easy. In our cellar it becomes a structured, age-worthy Pinot Noir and the heart of our Willamette Valley blend.
